Tension Bands and Tips for Comfort
A Guide to Comfort and Effectiveness
Penile tension bands, also known as tension rings or cock rings, are simple but effective devices used to help maintain an erection. They are especially useful for men who have difficulty keeping an erection after prostate cancer treatment due to a condition called venous leak.
How They Work
A tension band is placed at the base of the penis (or around the penis and testicles) once an erection is achieved. It works by applying gentle pressure to trap blood inside the penis, keeping it firm for sexual activity.
Tips for Comfort and Use:
- Finding the Right Fit: Tension bands come in different sizes, materials (silicone, latex, metal), and levels of tension. It may take some trial and error to find one that is comfortable and effective for you.
- Use Lubrication: Always use a water-based lubricant to make putting the ring on and taking it off easier and more comfortable. Trimming your pubic hair can also help.
- Safety First: Never wear a tension band for more than 30 minutes at a time to ensure healthy blood flow.
- Combine with a VED: Some men find that using a tension band in combination with a vacuum erection device (VED) provides the best results.
