Understanding Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer
Hormone therapy, also called Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT), is a common and effective treatment for prostate cancer. It works by targeting the hormones that fuel cancer growth.
Prostate cancer cells need male hormones, called androgens (like testosterone), to grow and survive. The goal of ADT is to either decrease the body’s level of androgens or to stop them from getting into the prostate cancer cells. This slows the growth of the cancer and can help shrink tumors.
This module provides detailed information on ADT and the common side effects associated with the treatment, helping you to recognize and manage them.
This education session explains what ADT is, how it works, and what to expect in terms of side effects.
